Now Hear This! (January 2018)
The Grammy’s are over. The popular kids won a lot of awards while we tried not to fall asleep. Here’s some new music that is worth your time in the latest edition of Now Hear This!
Saxon – They Played Rock And Roll
The world has gone to hell since Lemmy passed away but Saxon continues to carry the torch for rock-n-roll. This tribute to Motorhead sounds a little like “Ace of Spades” and honestly, we wish more songs did these days!
Meiko – Zombie
Recorded in a church just weeks before Dolores passed away, Meiko’s haunting rendition of “Zombie” serves as a beautiful tribute to the singer and the music of the Cranberries.
John Murry – Wrong Man
Murry’s brilliant 2017 release A Short History of Decay was finally released in the United States on Friday. Imagine Nick Cave channeling some Americana folk music and you’ll get an idea of where Murry is leading us. Each song is an invitation to cozy up to the turntable and here the story of a man who has overcome more demons than most of us will ever meet.
EMA – Dark Shadows
Last year’s Exile In the Outer Ring was EMA’s third album and each one has been brilliant in its own way. Using electronics to illuminate her emotional scars, EMA has been travelling a path that Lorde briefly touched on with her debut. Her creative well is so deep that the new single “Dark Shadows” is an outtake from Exile In the Outer Ring which makes you wonder if she should start releasing double albums.
Public Access T.V. – Lost In the Game
The band’s penchant for effervescent indie pop continues on their new single. An irresistible slice of summer, Public Access T.V. will help melt the winter blues. This band deserves a jump up the festival posters!
See you next month as we continue our search for the best in new music.
