15 AMAZING COVER VERSIONS
In this episode of the Revolutions per Minute podcast, Jeff Nolan runs down 15 of his favorite cover versions from the long history of rock ‘n’ roll. Some of the usual suspects are here, but there are quite a few surprises as well. You’re gonna dig it!
Here’s a handy-dandy Spotify playlist of the tunes included:
Wilson Pickett. Wilson Effing Pickett!!!!
How did I forget about him.
Building my Spotify list tonight.
Following yours too.
If we’re still talking about nerd boner cover song lists, I submit Jeff Buckley ‘ s rendition of Hallelujah. To me,,, he owned it. And yes, Cash’s Hurt should have ranked higher.
BTW, I’ve been listening to Wilson Pickett all day today.
Actually, the John Cale cover of “Hallelujah” is what I would have included. Jeff Buckley really just covered his cover.
Aerosmith’s cover of “Come Together” and Disturbed’s cover of “Sound of Silence” come to mind first.
Shake Your Hips – Slim Harpo, Rolling Stones
Dr. Wu – Steely Dan, Minutemen
Money – Barrett Strong, The Beatles
It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue – Bob Dylan, Them
Every song on Bowie ‘s Pinups
I just put together a compilation of favorite cover songs for a local radio show:
Something – Ray Charles (The Beatles)
I Fought The Law – The Clash (The Bobby Fuller 4)
Heart Of Gold – Charles Bradley (Neil Young)
To Love Somebody – Nina Simone (The Bee Gees)
Everybody’s Talkin’ – Bill Withers (Harry Nilsson)
Dancing In The Dark – Pete Yorn (Bruce Springsteen)
Take Me To The River – Talking Heads (Al Green)
Gold Heart Mountaintop Queen Directory – ….Trail Of Dead (Guided By Voices)
Props on the Blue Cheer. Were Blue Cheer might have lacked in songwriting they more than compensated on THAT SOUND. That magical wall of buzz and feedback.
